Causes and Solutions for Sudden Shutdown of Cone Crushers
Cone crushers are typically used for secondary and tertiary crushing, widely applied in medium and fine crushing operations of various hard minerals and rocks. A common failure is the sudden shutdown of the main unit during operation.
1. Cause: Blockage at the discharge opening. During operation, excessive or uneven feeding can cause the discharge opening to become blocked. This leads to an overload on the cone crusher, causing the fuse to blow and resulting in shutdown.
Solution: Before startup, inspect the discharge opening for any residual blockages. If present, clear them immediately. Additionally, ensure feed material is introduced uniformly—neither excessively nor insufficiently.
2. Cause: Loose drive belt. The cone crusher relies on a belt for power transmission. If the belt driving the pulley is too loose, it will slip, failing to provide sufficient power for normal operation and causing the crusher to suddenly stop.
Solution: Check the belt tension to ensure it is appropriate. Adjust it properly to prevent it from being too tight or too loose.
3. Cause: Voltage is too low or too high. When the construction site voltage is unstable or too low, it can easily trigger the cone crusher's self-protection mechanism, causing shutdown. Therefore, before starting the machine, the operator must check if the voltage is normal.
Solution: Monitor the voltage status and maintain voltage stability.
4. Cause: Eccentric shaft seizure. Loosening or detachment of the eccentric shaft locking bushing eliminates clearance on both sides within the frame bearing housing, causing the eccentric shaft to seize and preventing rotation. This results in sudden shutdown and “stalled machine” conditions.
Solution: Monitor the position of the eccentric bearing sleeve to prevent machine jamming.
5. Cause: Bearing damage. Bearings are critical components in cone crushers, reducing friction during operation. Damaged bearings impair the functionality of other crushing parts, causing sudden shutdowns.
Solution: Prioritize routine maintenance. Bearings are vital; ensure proper lubrication to minimize wear.
