The Distinction Between Sand Making Machines and Other Crushers
What distinguishes sand making machines from other crushers is a frequently discussed topic. Can sand making machines function as crushers? This often leads to confusion. Both sand making machines and crushers fall under the category of crushing equipment, capable of pulverising mineral aggregates such as pebbles and limestone. However, they possess certain differences.
1. Different Types
Sand making machines, also known as impact crushers, are indeed a type of crusher.
There are numerous crusher types: impact crushers, cone crushers, heavy hammer crushers, impact crushers, and mobile crushers, among others.
2. Functional Differences
Sand-making machines employ the ‘stone-on-stone’ crushing principle for processing. They are commonly suited for medium and fine crushing (sand production) of diverse hard and brittle raw materials including various rocks, abrasives, refractories, cement clinker, quartzite, iron ore, and concrete aggregates. They are particularly well-suited for producing construction sand and road-building aggregates.
Crusher primarily serves to pulverise medium-hardness and brittle raw materials such as granite, river pebbles, cobblestones, and limestone.
3. Differences in production line configuration sequence
A typical production line configuration comprises a jaw crusher + cone crusher/impact crusher + sand maker. The crusher performs primary crushing, while the sand maker handles secondary crushing. Should the raw material size be sufficiently small, it may proceed directly to the secondary crushing stage.
4. Differences in feed size
Crusher feed sizes are considerably larger, typically ranging from 1 to 2 metres in diameter, enabling direct processing of large quarried blocks. Sand makers, however, require smaller feed sizes, generally controlled between 30-50cm. Feed size must strictly adhere to specified limits; exceeding these can cause equipment damage.
5. Differing Output Particle Size
Sand produced by cone crushers or impact crushers is typically controlled below 50mm in size, facilitating subsequent sand-making processing by sand makers. Sand processed by sand makers is controlled within 5mm in size, with screening selecting sand meeting construction sand standards.
