Generally, the sand making machine we know, also called an impact crusher, is a type of crusher. However, since it's named a “sand making machine,” it must have certain differences from ordinary crushers based on its literal meaning. Both sand making machines and crushers are crucial equipment in manufactured sand production. So what exactly are the connections and differences between them? Today, we'll delve into this topic.

1. Different Sequences in Production Lines

In sand-making production lines, jaw crushers are typically used for primary crushing, while sand makers handle secondary crushing. Similarly, in aggregate production lines, crushers are generally employed for primary crushing, with sand makers taking over for secondary crushing. If the particle size produced by the crusher meets requirements, secondary crushing may be omitted. Alternatively, if the material size is already small, the second stage can be skipped. The sand maker employs a centrifugal crushing method, where the rotor's centrifugal force propels materials to impact the liner or lining plate, causing fragmentation. It serves as the final stage in sand production lines, functioning as a dual-purpose sand and aggregate machine. The sand maker allows flexible adjustment of output particle size according to customer requirements and also performs shaping and grinding functions. Conversely, conventional crushers in sand production lines are solely used for breaking large, hard materials without grinding or shaping capabilities, typically positioned at the initial stage of the process.

2. Differences in Feed and Discharge Particle Size

Crusher discharge particle size is relatively coarse, with larger feed particle sizes. Feed sizes typically range from 40 mm to 1000 mm, with some crusher models accommodating feed sizes up to 1500 mm. Discharge sizes generally exceed 5 mm. Sand makers produce finer discharge sizes with smaller feed sizes, typically ranging from 6 mm to 60 mm maximum feed size, and discharge sizes generally below 5 mm.

3. Different Material Properties

Crusher primarily processes medium-hardness and brittle materials such as granite, river pebbles, limestone, coal, ores, manufactured sand, and construction aggregates. Sand makers are widely applicable for medium and fine crushing (sand production) of various hard and brittle materials including rocks, abrasives, refractories, cement clinker, quartzite, iron ore, and concrete aggregates. They are the preferred equipment for artificial sand production and aggregate shaping.

4. Whether the output directly meets application specifications

Conventional crushers produce crushed materials with relatively large particle sizes that cannot be screened. Sand makers, however, produce crushed materials with varying particle sizes that can be screened, with a portion meeting application specifications. Sand making machines demand exceptionally fine output particle sizes. For instance, sand production projects typically require output sizes of 0.5mm to 1cm, 1cm to 1.5cm, or even 2-3cm aggregates.
