What are the advantages of impact crushers over hammer crushers
Both impact crushers and hammer crushers utilise high-speed impact to break down materials, and their similar appearance often leads to confusion between the two. Today, we examine the advantages of impact crushers over hammer crushers.
A. Performance Advantages
(1) Uniform output particle size with superior particle shape, featuring minimal fine powder and dust content.
(2) Lower operational and investment costs. The reduced weight and compact dimensions of impact crushers compared to hammer crushers effectively minimise civil engineering expenses. Furthermore, for equivalent output, impact crushers require lower motor power, significantly reducing electricity consumption and operational expenditure.
(3) Extended service life of wear parts. The semi-automatic hydraulic top-opening mechanism facilitates quicker, less labour-intensive equipment inspections, maintenance, and wear part replacements.
B. Technical Advantages
(1) Handles high-moisture materials without clogging
Impact crushers effectively process materials with significant moisture content, preventing blockages. When processing excessively moist materials, the feeder chute and impact plates can be equipped with heating devices to prevent material adhesion. The absence of a bottom screen plate in impact crushers effectively prevents blockages. In contrast, hammer crushers cannot employ heating to prevent material adhesion and require a bottom screen plate, increasing the likelihood of blockages.
(2) Semi-automatic safety design effectively reduces overload risks and downtime for maintenance
Upon entry of non-crushable materials (e.g., iron blocks) into the crushing chamber, the front and rear impact frames retract, expelling the foreign object from the machine. When the crusher resumes operation, the impact frames automatically return to their normal working position via a self-weight safety device, thereby avoiding risks from equipment overload and losses from downtime maintenance. As this process is fully automated, it significantly reduces manual shutdown time for cleaning and maintenance, greatly enhancing the overall production efficiency of the line.
(3) Wider Output Adjustment Range and Easier Size Control
A mechanical adjustment mechanism atop the impact crusher allows bolt rotation to alter the clearance between the impact frame and rotor, thereby regulating output size. Additionally, adjusting rotor speed and modifying the gap between impact plates and grinding chamber enables efficient and straightforward control over final particle size. In contrast, hammer crushers can only adjust output particle size by replacing the bottom screen plate.
(4) Reduced Wear on Consumable Parts, Extended Service Life
The impact crusher's plate hammers are cast using a composite process combining high-chromium material with wear-resistant alloys, followed by rigorous heat treatment. This yields excellent resistance to mechanical and thermal shock. Traditional linear-shaped hammers wear readily, compromising the perpendicular impact angle with material and rapidly diminishing crushing efficiency. The impact crusher employs crescent-shaped hammers, a design that delivers greater impact force, a larger striking surface, and enhanced durability.
(5) Hydraulic System Control for Enhanced Maintenance Convenience
The impact crusher employs a hydraulic adjustment system, enabling effortless regulation of the clearance between the impact frame and blow bars according to operational requirements. The modular design of wear components, coupled with a hydraulic lifting device, facilitates replacement operations, significantly reducing labour and time investment. The rotor of the impact crusher is fitted with only six impact plates. Using specially designed tools, these plates can be conveniently replaced, with a full set change taking just one shift.
