Applications and Advantages of Hammer Crushers
Hammer crushers are machinery that employs high-speed rotating hammers to impact materials, causing them to fracture along natural fissures, bedding planes, and joint surfaces. The standout feature of hammer crushers is their ‘single-stage crushing’ capability. This function not only streamlines on-site crushing operations but also reduces labour requirements and equipment configuration, yielding approximately 15% savings in capital expenditure.
Applications: Widely employed across mining, smelting, construction materials, highways, railways, water conservancy, and chemical industries.
Suitable Materials: Coal, salt, chalk, gypsum, alum, bricks, limestone, etc.
Working Principle of the Hammer Crusher
The primary working component of the hammer crusher is the rotor equipped with hammers (also termed hammer heads). The rotor comprises a main shaft, discs, pins, and hammers. An electric motor drives the rotor to rotate at high speed within the crushing chamber. Material is fed into the machine through the upper inlet. It is crushed by the impact, collision, shearing, and grinding action of the high-speed hammers. Below the rotor, a screen plate is installed. Particles smaller than the screen aperture size pass through the screen plate and are discharged. Coarse particles larger than the aperture size are retained on the screen plate, where they continue to be struck and ground by the hammers before eventually passing through the screen plate and exiting the machine.
Performance Advantages of Hammer Crushers
1. Low Energy Consumption and Cost Efficiency
Single-stage crushing eliminates the need for secondary crushing and shaping processes, achieving low-cost operation where one stage replaces two.
2. Minimal Hammer Wear
By altering the method of controlling output particle size from using bars to other means, wear on hammers within the crushing chamber is reduced, extending hammer lifespan by 4–6 times.
3. Unique structural design
Final particle size can be adjusted to meet customer requirements, offering comprehensive specifications from coarse to fine. The absence of flakes or smooth surfaces, coupled with multiple angles and edges, ensures high compressive strength of the final product.
