Based on their construction and operating principles, common crushing machinery primarily includes jaw crushers, impact crushers, hammer crushers, cone crushers, and impact crushers, among others. Each product is further categorized into different specifications and models according to specific production requirements. Despite the wide variety of crushing machinery, the methods of applying force to pulverize materials can be categorized into crushing, splitting, bending, impact crushing, and grinding. Faced with the vast array of crushers on the market, are you struggling to decide which one to purchase? Are you frustrated by the low production efficiency of your crusher? To truly resolve these issues and enhance the operational efficiency of your crushing equipment, it is essential to gain a comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of the material being crushed, the methods of material crushing, and the classification of crushing equipment. When selecting a crusher, you should fully consider the type of material to be crushed, its hardness, feed and discharge particle size, production capacity, and the construction site.

1. Material Hardness

Material hardness indicates the degree of softness or hardness of the material and is directly related to its friability. It is typically measured using the Mohs hardness scale, which has 10 levels. The higher the level, the harder the material, the greater the difficulty in crushing it, and the higher the requirements for the crushing equipment. Friability refers to the physical property of whether a material is easily crushed. Factors affecting friability mainly include the material's strength, hardness, density, structure, moisture content, stickiness, cracks, surface condition, and shape.

2. Material Moisture Content

Moisture content also influences crusher selection. Excessive moisture causes fine particles to agglomerate or adhere to coarse particles, increasing stickiness and reducing discharge rate, thereby lowering productivity. Severe cases may even block the discharge opening, disrupting normal operations.

3. Degree of cleavage in ore

The degree of cleavage in ore directly impacts crusher productivity. Ore tends to fracture along cleavage planes during crushing. Consequently, crushing ore with well-developed cleavage yields significantly higher productivity than crushing densely structured ore.

4. Material Particle Size

Larger or medium-sized hard materials typically employ compression crushing or impact crushing, such as in jaw crushers or primary impact crushers. Smaller hard materials generally utilize compression crushing, impact crushing, or grinding, where the crushing tools feature smooth surfaces without teeth.

5. Abrasiveness

Highly abrasive materials are primarily crushed using compression methods with smooth crushing surfaces. Less abrasive materials are processed via impact crushing, percussion crushing, or grinding using tools with sharp teeth.

6. Tough Materials

Tough materials are typically processed by shearing or rapid impact, such as hammer crushers.

7. Powdery or muddy materials are best processed by grinding, impact crushing, or crushing, such as in ball mills.

8. Multi-component materials are processed using selective crushing under impact forces, or by combining multiple force fields.

Therefore, before selecting crushing equipment, users must first determine the appropriate force application method based on the material properties, desired crushed product, and particle size requirements. This determines the crushing force method, followed by the selection of the crushing equipment model. We hope these points offer valuable guidance for selecting crushers.
