During operation, jaw crushers may occasionally become blocked without any ore beneath the jammed material, directly impacting subsequent production. How can material jamming in jaw crushers be resolved? Understanding the crusher's structure enables easy troubleshooting of material jamming issues.

A. Materials with High Moisture Content or High Viscosity

During operation, if ore contains excessive moisture, wet material entering the crushing chamber breaks into small pieces that stick together. This causes the jaw plates to jam, directly leading to blockages. Alternatively, mixing materials with viscous clay can cause them to clump and become lodged in the chamber, resulting in material jams. Prolonged blockages not only reduce production efficiency but also cause material adhering to the jaw plates to corrode them, accelerating wear.

Solutions:

Before feeding material into the jaw crusher, screen it and prepare for dewatering to reduce moisture and viscosity. Dewatering can be achieved through natural air-drying or by installing dedicated drying equipment.

B. Oversized Feed

During operation, some operators attempt to accelerate production by exceeding the crusher's rated capacity. This prevents timely crushing within the chamber, leading to material jams.

Solution:

Operators should undergo specialized training to understand the crusher's specifications. This enables consistent, stable feeding and significantly reduces jamming incidents.

C. Improper Discharge Opening Adjustment

Blockages may also occur when the discharge opening is too small, preventing crushed material from exiting promptly. Accumulation of material within the crushing chamber then causes blockages.

Solution:

Adjust the jaw crusher's discharge opening appropriately to increase its size, ensuring smooth discharge of crushed material.

D. Understanding Jaw Crusher Parameters

Before operation, the jaw crusher's parameters—particularly material property requirements—were unclear. The material failed to meet the crusher's processing specifications. Upon entering the crushing chamber, it could not achieve the desired crushing effect, reducing production efficiency and causing material jams.

Solution:

Before using the jaw crusher for production, clearly define its parameters, especially material performance requirements. Feed appropriate materials based on the crusher's specifications (e.g., size, hardness).

Material jamming is a common occurrence during jaw crusher operation. However, once the root cause is identified, it can be easily resolved through proper methods.
