Equipment Selection for the Third Crushing Stage in Crushing and Sand-Making Lines
Common third-stage crushing units include cone crushers (short-head type) and vertical shaft impact crushers (sand makers).
(1) When the overall crushing ratio of the combined crushing and screening equipment is substantial and cannot be achieved by secondary crushing alone, tertiary crushing is incorporated into the design. For cone crushers, secondary crushing units typically employ standard cavity configurations, whereas tertiary crushing units utilise short-head cavities.
(2) Vertical shaft impact crushers (sand makers) have developed rapidly, becoming common equipment for sand production, shaping, and tertiary crushing. By adjusting rotor structure, rotational speed, and motor power, discharge particle size can be controlled. These crushers feature exceptionally smooth rock flow and high processing capacity. Not only are vertical shaft impact crushers the finest sand-making machinery, but their selection for tertiary crushing—and even secondary crushing—has become a developing trend.
