The screening stage of a high-quality aggregate production line
A mature production line primarily comprises crushers and screening machines, with auxiliary equipment including conveying systems, washing equipment, storage facilities, and electrical control systems.
Within the graded crushing process, inserting a pre-screener between primary and secondary crushing stages serves two functions:
Firstly, it reduces the throughput required by subsequent crushing stages. The pre-screener separates material smaller than the target discharge size from the feed stream, thereby decreasing the proportion of fine particles in the subsequent crushing discharge.
Secondly, it enables the screening of oversized product material. Given that vibrating screens are relatively less expensive than crushers, the principle of ‘more screening, less crushing’ is a common design approach in process flows.
The operating conditions of pre-screening machines involve large feed particle sizes and high throughput rates. Consequently, larger screen apertures are required, and high screening efficiency is not strictly demanded (while minimising the risk of material blockages). Therefore, in addition to circular vibrating screens, options such as constant thickness screens and resonant screens may also be selected.
Finish screens are employed for grading sand and gravel products, where thorough screening directly impacts product quality. Typically set to achieve over 90% efficiency, their mesh sizes correspond to finished product gradations. Options beyond circular vibrating screens include three-axis elliptical screens.
