The vertical impact crusher (commonly abbreviated as vertical shaft impact crusher or VSI) is a highly efficient fine crushing equipment that utilises a high-speed rotating rotor to accelerate and project materials, causing them to collide, impact, and friction with fixed liners (or the materials themselves) to achieve crushing.

The following outlines the core working principles of the vertical impact crusher:

1. High-speed centrifugal acceleration: Material enters the centre of the high-speed rotating rotor (with a linear velocity of up to 60–80 metres per second or higher) vertically from the top of the machine.

2. Energy impartation: The throwing heads (rotor blades) on the rotor instantly accelerate the material, imparting it with significant kinetic energy.

3. Impact crushing: The high-speed ejected material collides with the fixed peripheral liners (or impact blocks) on the inner wall of the machine, or collides at high speed with the freely falling material flow (stone-on-stone). This intense impact, collision, and friction is the primary crushing method.

4. Shaping and Optimisation: The material undergoes multiple collisions within the crushing chamber, with its edges and corners continuously ground down, ultimately forming a product with excellent particle shape (more cubes and fewer needle-like or flake-like particles).
