Material is fed into the machine through the upper feed inlet and is crushed by the impact, shearing, and grinding actions of the high-speed hammers. A screen plate is installed at the bottom of the rotor; particles smaller than the screen aperture size pass through the screen and are discharged, while coarser particles larger than the aperture size are retained on the screen plate to continue being struck and ground by the hammers before eventually passing through the screen and exiting the machine.
