Iron ore is a natural mineral resource, and its processing inevitably requires crushers. As a high-hardness metallic ore, iron ore typically necessitates crushers suited for medium-hard materials, such as jaw crushers, cone crushers, or impact crushers. The crushing process generally employs a three-stage approach: primary crushing, secondary crushing, and tertiary crushing. This progression facilitates subsequent grinding operations, achieving the goal of ‘more crushing, less grinding’ to enhance production efficiency.

1. Jaw crushers are selected for the primary crushing stage. Typically employed in the initial crushing phase of iron ore processing, jaw crushers are suitable for reducing large ore blocks ranging from 200 to 1400mm to sizes exceeding 40mm. They feature a high crushing ratio, wear resistance, and low energy consumption. Jaw crushers for primary crushing offer hourly capacities ranging from 7 to over 1,500 tonnes. Available in standard and European versions, their diverse models accommodate varying production requirements.

2. Cone crushers are favoured for their high throughput, low failure rate, and advanced automation, proving effective for both soft and hard materials. However, their higher purchase cost typically limits their use to processing high-hardness raw materials, making them a sound choice for iron ore processing. Internal overload protection mechanisms reduce maintenance expenses, offering excellent value for users with long-term operational plans. Cone crushers achieve hourly outputs of up to 2000 tonnes, processing 300mm-sized rocks down to 6mm or smaller. Common variants include single-cylinder hydraulic cone crushers and multi-cylinder hydraulic cone crushers.

3. For the fine crushing stage, impact crushers are selected to process iron ore into finer particles, meeting subsequent grinding requirements. This ‘more crushing, less grinding’ approach enhances production efficiency. Impact crushers and sand makers are primarily employed for fine crushing, with capacities ranging from 16 to 700 tonnes per hour. Utilising impact crushing technology, these machines can process materials under 60mm down to sizes below 5mm. Specific types include vertical impact crushers, vertical shaft impact crushers, and vertical compound crushers.

For iron ore crushing, the primary crushers employed are jaw crushers, cone crushers, and impact crushers. These represent the most widely utilised types currently available on the market. Specific model selection should be configured according to the production line's anticipated output capacity and finished product requirements.
