Conventional jaw crushers, also known as traditional jaw crushers, first appeared in 1858. Due to their reliable performance, simple structure, and ease of maintenance, they have been widely used in mineral crushing. However, with changing demands and technological innovations, European-style jaw crushers have gradually gained attention. So, what are the differences between the two? Which one produces smaller output?

What are the differences between European-style jaw crushers and standard jaw crushers?

1. Crushing Chamber Design

Standard: Inclined V-shaped chamber;

European: Straight V-shaped chamber, facilitating easier discharge, reducing material jamming, eliminating dead zones, and enhancing efficiency.

2. Lubrication Method

Conventional jaw crusher: Manual lubrication;

European-style jaw crusher: Centralized hydraulic lubrication.

3. Adjustment Method

Conventional jaw crusher: Shims. This method uses shims of equal thickness between the adjustment seat and the rear frame wall. The discharge opening size is adjusted by adding or removing shims. This allows for multi-stage adjustment and reduces equipment weight, but requires shutdown for adjustment.

European-style jaw crushers employ a block adjustment system. This method regulates the discharge opening by shifting two blocks relative to each other between the adjustment seat and the rear frame wall. This adjustment is convenient, time-saving, requires no shutdown, and offers a simpler, safer overall design.

4. Different Bearing Housing Fixing Methods

Conventional jaw crushers have bearing housings welded to the frame, resulting in relatively short service life.

European-style jaw crushers feature integral cast steel bearing housings, significantly enhancing radial strength and extending operational lifespan.

5. Different Protective Plates

Conventional jaw crushers use flat jaw plates;

European-style jaw crushers feature toothed liners. Compared to flat liners, toothed liners increase effective crushing length and enhance crushing efficiency.

Which produces finer output: European-style or conventional jaw crushers?

According to equipment model parameter tables (available upon inquiry via website customer service), conventional jaw crushers produce output sizes ranging from 10-350mm; while the European-style jaw crusher ranges from 60-300mm. Purely based on data, the standard jaw crusher produces finer output. However, actual production scenarios require case-by-case analysis. One key point: the European-style jaw crusher is better suited for large-scale, environmentally compliant, and high-output production lines. For small-scale, non-continuous operations, the standard jaw crusher is recommended to reduce initial investment.
