Low-Temperature Properties of Key Components in Jaw Crushers
Currently, the conventional jaw crushers produced by our company can operate within a temperature range of -20° to 40°. Beyond this range, the main unit may encounter a series of issues, particularly in low-temperature conditions. Due to the inherent characteristics of steel, low-temperature brittleness is highly likely to occur, significantly reducing impact resistance. Recently, some overseas users have requested that the equipment be capable of operating in environments with temperatures as low as -40°C. Let us examine the low-temperature properties of some key components of the jaw crusher.
Since welded joints are sensitive to low temperatures, the frame of the jaw crusher adopts a modular assembly structure. This frame structure is connected using pins and bolts, eliminating any welded joints and thereby avoiding the various issues associated with welding.
To ensure the main unit operates normally at -40°C, the impact energy value Akv of the materials used at -40°C must be greater than or equal to 27 J (equivalent to the impact energy value of Q235 at room temperature).
1. Side wall plates — material Q345E, with excellent low-temperature impact performance, Akv ≥ 34 J at -40°C;
2. Front and rear walls — material ZG20Mn, with good fluidity and weldability; commonly used as raw material for large castings, Akv ≥ 27 J at -40°C.
3. Moving jaw body — material ZG20Mn. Currently, most cast moving jaw bodies use ZG270-500, which is a medium-carbon steel. The higher the carbon content, the more pronounced the low-temperature brittleness, so ZG270-500 is not suitable for low-temperature environments.
4. Eccentric shaft — Material 42CrMo, a ultra-high-strength steel with high strength and toughness, good quenching properties, no significant temper brittleness, and high fatigue limit and resistance to multiple impacts after tempering. It also exhibits good low-temperature impact toughness. Currently, the main shaft material for jaw crushers is 40CrMnMo, which has average low-temperature impact toughness and is not recommended for use at -40°C.
